The 30 day challenge starts NOW!

So I was going to wait until a certain day to start this challenge, and then I realized that when you make a plan to “start” something on a certain date, it never really ends up carrying through.

So I’m starting now.  Whether or not I’m “completely ready” – it’s full throttle.

Awhile back, my buddy David Manning introduced me to the idea of doing a 30-days-in-a-row blogging challenge.  I liked the idea, but I always feared I wouldn’t have the content.

Well you know what? I might not. I might not have a stacked inventory of shoots ready to post, or interesting/clever ideas that would strike as a good read.  But I’m going to push myself to MAKE IT HAPPEN, and regardless of whether or not I succeed – I’m betting I’ll probably gain something valuable out of the process.

And while I’m sure I’ll benefit from the process, I’m the type of person that likes to add a little gasoline to the fire (those that have heard the story from about a month ago know this to be true).

So here’s the deal:

I’m going to commit myself to blogging genuine content for 30 days straight (no single paragraph posts or lame fillers to just complete the challenge, but REAL substance).  I’d pose the challenge (no pun intended) to all my fellow photographers & bloggers alike to do the same. Here are the stakes – if we both successfully do it, we’ll give each other hi-fives on doing a great job on building a better practice come January 6th.  If one fails to post – the other gets to choose one of their own blog posts for the other to promote on their social media outlet – for EACH DAY MISSED DURING THE 30 DAY PERIOD.

For example, say you & I make a pact that we’re in on this.  I miss 4 days of blogging during the month.  You get to choose whether I’ll post on facebook or twitter, and what time of day/week, and which of your posts to promote.  And since I missed 4 days, you can choose 4 separate posts of yours that you would like me to promote.  2 hr period between prior & future tweets/status updates to ensure a solid delivery, posts set to “public” so there’s no funny business involving ‘lists’.  If you miss 3 days of the month, you would only win by 1 post, so therefore you would ‘win’ one post of promotion.  No 1 paragraph/1 photo blogs – we’re talking real content here.  Posts must be online by noon (PST) each day to count.

Now obviously some of you will have more/less followers than I do – but in the spirit of a bet, I’m game no matter what.  No fan-base too big or small.

If you’re in, post your blog URL in the comments below for all to see, so that way they can enjoy your posts too.  Looking forward to an interesting month guys!

I Heart You, Internet | Shane Jeffri - [...] 30-DAYS-IN-A-ROW BLOGGING CHALLENGE / I came across this challenge via CreativeLive and considered taking it on for all of about 30 seconds, after which I realized how much I value my sanity, at least for the moment, and quickly decided to stick with my M-W-F schedule. That isn’t stopping me from checking in on the participants, though. I’m excited to see the content they manage to produce over 30 consecutive days (I start getting a headache just thinking about it). And, dude, they have to be serious entries. None of that one-poetic-photo stuff I’m overly fond of. Not only that, but there are consequences for being a slacker. It’s like boot camp meets reality TV for creatives. Lisa Faulkner - Hi Tim. My friend, Sara Wilbur’s facebook post yesterday inspired me to check out your post & blog challenge. I joined in yesterday and am deciding to make an official, public commitment today (though I’m not a photographer). And my posts won’t ‘count’ in your challenge since they won’t be up by noon most days. Here’s my day two post with a note at the end about my “Start Now 30 day blog post challenge.

Thanks for the inspiration! Great idea!

Tanya Petraglia - Hey Tim!
I am in! Woot Woot! Hi five to you! I just blogged:) Tomorrow is day 2!December 8, 2011 – 9:39 am

Dale - Hey Tim, Great idea for a post. I’ve blogged every day for over a thousand days in a row and I’ll tell all those photogs who are nervous about being able to do – once you make it a priority, it doesn’t seem so bad. In my mind, it’s not a question of “should I blog today?” – instead it’s “what specifically should I blog today?” Those two words at the beginning make a really big difference. I take the escape route right out of the equation. I’ve found that as I’m more and more consistent with my blogging, the more and more people come back daily (or subscribe) to the blog. The end result is that I’m on my clients’/potential clients’minds every morning when they open their inbox or sign in to the rss reader, etc. It’s been well worth the time investment. Thanks for coming up with a fun way to keep each other accountable!December 7, 2011 – 9:15 pm

Kaitlyn Hanrahan - I love this! I have a travel blog [] that is pretty far behind, maybe 30 posts will get me up to present day. I’ve been back-date-ing my posts so the date reflects when I was somewhere (rather than when I’m finally writing about it). That might make it hard to see that I’m following the rules from my blog, but I’ll tweet new posts to @kait3210 to compensate. Excitement!December 7, 2011 – 8:18 pm

Harmony Loves - oh I want to commit so bad but just thinking about it makes my stomach hurt… someone push me into the pool! Please!December 7, 2011 – 5:40 pm

Marissa Rodriguez - this is so great! i hope you do it again in the near future! being that we JUST moved to hawaii from san diego, things are a little crazy right now so there is no way that i could keep up. but i’d love to participate if you ever decide to do it again! :)December 7, 2011 – 5:15 pm

Ed Devereaux - This interests me on so many levels. There is the fact that it may force me to be more eloquent, detailed and informative on my posts, I tend to write in short sentences. I will have to have ideas prepared ahead of time. 7, 2011 – 1:32 pm

Chantale Perron - Tim, I’m hoping I’m not too late to join in on this awesome challenge!?!?
Blogging has always been a huge effort for me – I blog every couple of months, and feel like I’ll never find enough topics, or nobody wants to hear it anyways. EEEEk! I know I “should” blog more often from a business perspective, but I totally struggle with it. This challenge is seriously the push I need to get me going!!

Please say it isn’t too late…..pppppppppplease!! 7, 2011 – 1:02 pm

Kyle Bromley - I accept the challenge, whether or not I can complete it. I’m gonna try :-D

I wish all my fellow colleagues and participants the best, and I look forward to being further inspired and encouraged by everyone else’s blogging endeavors…December 7, 2011 – 11:27 am

Saundra McBride - Ok, so I’m in. For several weeks now I’ve put off updating my blog. (I am in the middle of totally changing my photography business and it’s look) Every excuse in the book. Well, maybe some legit ones were in there, anyway. When a photographer like Tim, puts something like this out there, well, you’d be crazy not to jump in because you know in 30 days you will be better for it, you will learn a lot about yourself, and it will be amazing.

My blog, (bless it’s pitiful heart)

Have a great evening!
SaundraDecember 6, 2011 – 6:25 pm

Justin Dogulas - I might regret it but this motivated me to launch my blog so I’m in. I’ll post the link today or tomorrow. I get off work in a couple of hrs and will be buying my blog…. HERE WE GO!!!!December 6, 2011 – 5:43 pm

Sara - I know that on a very late night a week from now I’m going to be kicking myself for saying this… but I’m in. Rather than competing with one person directly, I’m happy to keep a list of participants and promote anyone who would like it during the 30 days.December 6, 2011 – 1:31 pm

Ryan Lum -

Game on sir.December 6, 2011 – 1:26 pm
