Today starts the tour of the international part of my trip, I arrived safe & sound after about 16 hrs of flying/layovers from San Diego & New York. St Lucia is getting a rough coat of rain today, so I’ve spent a bit more time in my hotel room today than I had hoped.
On the way to my hotel, I talked with the taxi cab driver about the weather and the storms that usually hit the island. He told me that storms pass in a matter of just a few minutes, returning back to clear blue skies.
Well, unfortunately…that was NOT the case today. Rain, rain, rain. And MORE rain. Although, it wasn’t enough to keep me from exploring. Even though it was pouring quite a bit today, I still decided to make my way around and check out the surrounding area. My hotel has a shuttle that runs to a sister hotel located right on the beach that comes every half hour or so – I decided to check out the scenery and take a little dip in the ocean.
I can’t believe how warm the water was! And such a emerald blue color – pretty sweet. I was pretty bummed about the rain today, but still managed to make the best of the situation and get out and experience what was available. Checked out a local restaurant called “The Lime” – had some great local food.
Walking back to the hotel was an interesting thing – everyone was still walking around without any umbrellas. The temperature was still pretty warm, so it didn’t seem like the weather really affected the locals too much. On my way down the street, I’d look on the ground & instead of seeing snails/slugs during a rainshower, there were actually hermit crabs all over the place!
Here are a few photos from the first day. (I bought a waterproof camera for this trip, so we’ll see how the shots hold out!)
