One of the items on my bucketlist (my bucket-list is huge by the way) was to ride on an air boat in the southern swamps to see some gators.
Check.
After a quick tour around the gulf coast of Mexico & the sticks of Mississippi, I went on a swamp boat tour of the Louisiana bayou with about 8 people. Our tour guide was born/raised along the bayou, so he told us pretty much everything and everything you would (not) want to know about the culture. At one point during the tour, he started ranting about how Louisianans had a bad rep as being red-neck, marrying within the family, and eating road-kill.
“You do it just once and all the sudden people stereotype you,” he said.
Everyone chuckled and thought he was being sarcastic…he went on to tell us about how this one time – he saw another car hit a dear while driving down the road. Apparently, it was a “clean hit” and was satisfactory for taking home, chopping up, and throwing on the grill.
