Photowalk: Hillcrest

In this time between semesters, I’ve luckily had more free time for leisure and these “photowalks” have piqued an interest of mine. It’s cool to explore different parts of town and find interesting areas with unique design/architectural elements. It brings a new type of inspiration to my work and also is a great way to take time out of a stressful day to unwind and just be creative.

The other day, I went for a walk in hillcrest and found a few spots I never knew existed. For example, there’s this cool suspension bridge next to front street that has a great view of the canyon and a little of downtown. Who knows…maybe it will serve in the future for some cool engagement photos?

In addition to finding cool new spots, an interesting idea had come from this particular walk that had a strong effect on me. A couple times, I was passing an alley, or a building, or a church, and thought to myself, “Ehh, this place looks a little dull…I’ll think I’ll just skip it…and keep looking for something else.” But then, for some reason, I decided to go against my first instinct and check it out anyways. Here’s where it got really interesting – on BOTH these occasions, I found new perspectives/angles to go from and came out getting some really cool shots. These might look plain and uneventful to the average person, but when I look at these, I know I’ll probably use some idea or some angle or even a location that I find while going on one of these walks.

I sometimes like to think symbolically about things and this walk hit a strong point for me. Sometimes I can find myself doing the same thing over and over, but then when I decide to switch something up – or add something new into my life, it often ends up making it SO MUCH better. And other times you find out about what you DON’T want to do or where you DON’T want to eat.

My point is though, you never know what’s around the corner and even right in front of your face…sometimes you have to look at things with a new perspective and experiment with the unknown, otherwise, what *is* there to make your life *that* much better, or at least help you realize how GOOD it really is…?

Here I am sounding like your weekly horoscope! Haha – anyways, here are some of the shots from the walk…try to guess the two that I pics I was talking about in this post!

Henry Gardener - I like how you talk about the different perspective. Def helps out with more than just photography, but an outlook on life tooJanuary 16, 2010 – 4:39 pm

Lisa - These are so cool! they are pieces of art! I really like your thoughts about taking a second look at things. Maybe they are not what they seem. And by assuming we know what they are, we don’t really see them.

Very nice work!January 14, 2010 – 5:31 pm
