Rappongi 13th Anniversary Party

La Jolla celebrated one of it’s notable sushi restaurants double-digit birthday this past year, and you-know-who was there to photograph it! While the night was focused primarily on long-time customers & VIP clientele, I was limited on what I could shoot in regards to invading private party dinners & such. It was a privilege to not only...

San Diego Beer Week has grown to be one of my favorite events to shoot.  Last year I had the privilege of shooting this event, and this year proved to be even more fun. Beer, brats, bread, and burgers filled the day at Torrey Pines Lodge, San Diego.  The capstone event featured all the best...

Burlap Grand Opening

I recently shot the grand opening party for Burlap, an asian-western style restaurant started by the Brennan brothers – along with well known chef Brian Malarkey. The night kicked off with a bang – Brian is well known for being the life of the party – he paraded through the restaurant with Chinese dragon heads...

She’s the one in the big round dark sunglasses; you can see her clearly in your shot of Michael Kors and also in a couple others. Pretty much every person in the front row of that show was some big name in fashion. Nicely done, Tim!December 9, 2011 – 2:42 pm

F6ix Grand Opening

Last week I shot the grand opening for RMD Group’s newest venue – F6ix. Can you guess where it’s located? Yep, you got it. F and 6th street downtown. If loving you is wrong, I don’t want to be right

I’ve met a lot of photographers who are adamant about being “technically correct” when it comes taking photos. But you know what? Sometimes, being technically correct – sometimes just DOESN’T DO IT. For the most part, I like to think of my style as clean, fresh, fun, and modern. At times though, I think it...

Ashley Goodwin - Seriously interesting, for real! I have often wondered if I should go more “event” processing than “me” processing sometimes, and this totally worked. Especially love the italian place, you really thought about that one! & who in the heck has a VIP reception and then broadcasts it to the other patrons that can’t get in? I’d love to hear a little bit more about that one, not sure if I’m sold, but I’m sure you’d sell me on the tactic. :)
xoJune 22, 2011 – 9:59 am

s h e r r y - Awesome stuff. The post-processing you chose definitely fits each of these events! I find myself being more consistent than daring. I really should challenge myself to change it up a bit. I have a preset that I use to gently tweak each image, and then I’ll mess with them individually some more. I’ve been thinking of doing more b/w lately too! Gotta try it! :)June 21, 2011 – 10:21 pm

Megs - YES! Amen, amen, amen. Here is to letting your eyes choose. :) LOVE THIS POST.June 21, 2011 – 4:03 pm

Ben Nash - Yeah man, I hear ya. I like to use LR presets a lot! And I like making an image unique. Photography is always changing, so I think for photographers, a lot of what they produce will be changing. Maybe not a lot, but some. Unless your old school, and take the same kind of shots and edit them the same every time, I think inside of creativity you can have a lot of change. I agree that it’s probably good to stay consistent, but also creativity will create change and inconsistency to some level. Sweet pics man! I really like the Italian restaurant pics. Keep em’ coming. I admire your work.June 21, 2011 – 8:08 am

Each time I look at your work I realize that there’s so much more to learn. It’s always like a breath of fresh air for me (yes, I stole your expression and keep using on special occasions :P), thank you for making me push myself harder.

The whole shoot looks very solid, the color tones are so nice and warm. I love the shot with the sun flare peeking through the stairs and a little bit of the “tilt shift lens” effect. There’s something about the very last image that makes it so real and um… lasting.

Ryan Cross - Nice work on these photos Tim! Really says “Hard Rock” with all the musical details you included. The guitars at the top, the soundboard, the shot of the guy playing guitar (i like it better you didn’t get his head, has more of an abstract look to it), the singer, and the woman with her hands in the air. Paints the picture just perfectly. But you already knew that…September 27, 2010 – 5:58 pm

Eric - Yeah, that twice as cold question is tough! I ‘m getting ready for an interview today so these were a great help.April 19, 2011 – 1:43 am

Lisa - I just have to say, reading all these, I hope I don’t have to interview any time soon. But for me interviewing someone else, I’d ask, “How would you go about shopping for a microwave?”
The thoroughness of their “research” efforts would tell me how compulsive they are, or how practical. So if I wanted someone good at research or good at quick/practical decision making, i’d have my answer – right there!

Nice, entertaining reading! thank you.April 16, 2010 – 8:34 pm

julie - hmmm i would get rid of California, and make it a sovereign nation :)April 16, 2010 – 12:13 am

DAD - Good work Tim. Brings more excitement and includes people more in the process as well as gets them thinking. This gives them more to go home with.

I was asked by the person who would be my boss, “If I asked you to do something for me that for you was unethical or inappropriate and insisted that you do it because I was your boss and that I took responsibility, what would you do?”

At an interview for graduate school in clinical psychology, a candidate was asked to tell the interveiwer something she had never told anyone before. She responded, “If I haven’t told anyone else, I’m not going to tell you.”

Re: Which state? “Is this Sophie’s Choice?”April 15, 2010 – 2:45 pm

michael - the scales are just different methods of measuring temperature. to be “twice as cold” is subjective, and would require a relative constant for a “right” answer.April 15, 2010 – 2:22 pm

Sherry - Very interesting questions Tem! Love the pics too! I’m really impressed with everything that you have accomplished thus far! :)
The question remains who is going to take your grad pics? (ME!?!)April 15, 2010 – 12:20 pm

Tim - It sounds like a trick question! Apparently what you’re supposed to do is convert to the “Celsius” scale and judge accordingly, because it wouldn’t be possible in Fahrenheit or Kelvin.April 15, 2010 – 5:29 pm

Michael - i’m impressed. “What is the temperature when it’s twice as cold as zero degrees?” that is all kinds of trick question.April 15, 2010 – 5:25 pm
