This past Friday, I shot the Alterna Fashion show for 944 magazine in Coronado. This is the 3rd annual show they’ve had, and I’ve been there to cover it the previous 2 years as well. Without a doubt, I can say that this show is the most well-produced & well-coordinated fashion event I’ve seen in […]

Deals, Discounts, and how YOU, the client, can get the BEST out of your photographer

One of the trickiest things as a sole proprietor is figuring out how to price your services. You, yourself, make the decision on how much you are going to charge people – including your friends, acquaintances, and estranged family. In a perfect world, we could provide our services for free to everyone in a joyous […]

Dana Laymon - great post! you have to take yourself seriously if you want others to. So many of my friends are getting married or having babies and i can’t do it all for free! i have to put my foot down at some point and so far they understand! ( i should ask them if they’re willing to help me hide a body :)May 16, 2011 – 11:10 am

s h e r r y - :) Awesome post, again. The friends-or-acquaintances-that-you-met-once-at-a-party who want hookups. Fun times to deal with… :/May 13, 2011 – 10:06 am

Ashley Goodwin - Would you help ME hide a body? Better answer yes, got some work that needs to be done! Seriously though, this is a great concept, sometimes I do struggle with who to hook-up and who to NOT hook-up. When is it just the right thing to do and when are you screwing yourself, so good call!
The girlfriend/family section is quite possibly my favorite of the two. My I suggest an addition to the post? Photographer friends!! :)
Groupon is such a tempting idea for some, I am sure, but it is TOTALLY dangerous! Not only do you get locked into a contract, but I have heard of photographers who signed up to do this, got tons of clients, yes, (but clients they didn’t necessarily want, I am sure) and then they were BOMBARDED with work and couldn’t keep up. This killed their business and reputation and the clients got the shaft. Just not a good idea all in all. I would never purchase a service like that from Groupon, just restaurant deals! :)
Once again, friend, a super helpful post!May 10, 2011 – 9:45 am
